Gunshot victim, mother wants holiday help

A Hephzibah woman caring for her children has no extra money to buy Christmas gifts this year or even pay her household bills.

The woman, 36, suffered a gunshot wound and is now unable to work and must use a wheelchair, she said.

Her boyfriend recently lost his job, and the family depends on Social Security and child support to live.

The woman has three children - two daughters, ages 19 and 17, and a 14-year-old son.

"I just want to see them smile on that day," she writes. "The things they are in need of is a coat, shoes, clothes, and my son wants a bike so he can be able to ride with the other children."

The woman wants her kids to be able to sleep in a heated house and have food, and she would like to be free of so many bills, she said.

This woman will receive assistance thanks to The Augusta Chronicle's Empty Stocking Fund. Contributions can be sent to Empty Stocking Fund, P.O. Box 1928, Augusta, GA 30903-1928. To donate online, go to www.augustachronicle.com/emptystocking.
