Clemson freshman suspended from game

CLEMSON, S.C. - Clemson center Barry Humphries has been suspended from the Tigers bowl game after he was arrested earlier this month and charged with driving under the influence in Clayton, Ga., coach Tommy Bowden said Thursday.

Humphries, a freshman who is redshirting this season, would not have played in the game but will be punished, Bowden said.

"This suspension has meaning because he will not be allowed to travel with the team to the bowl site, and thus will not realize any of the benefits allowed student-athletes by the NCAA that accompany a bowl trip," the coach said.

He also will go through counseling and be involved in community service projects, Bowden said.

The 19-year-old was arrested the morning of Nov. 13, one day after Clemson upset then 17th-ranked Florida State 35-14.
