Regina Wynn has been named the 2005 Outstanding Soror by Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Augusta Alumni chapter.

Paul Weston honored

Dr. Paul Weston has been honored by the Etheridge-Beard Education Foundation. Interim Mayor Willie Mays presented him with a proclamation and declared Nov. 13 as Dr. Paul D. Weston Day.

Research apprentice

Bryan Davis, of Hephzibah, a student at John S. Davidson Fine Arts Magnet School, has been selected to work with the Center for Undergraduate Research Opportunities apprentice program at the University of Georgia, Athens.

Josey students compete

The following members of the T.W. Josey High School Vocational Opportunities Club of America chapter placed in competition at the state conference:

Victoria Harris, first, Child Care and Development; Phillip Johnson and Warren Washington, second, Creative Problem Solving; and Acima Miller, outstanding abilities in Communication Skills.

$122,000 raised

BI-LO Charity Classic recently raised more than $122,000 to benefit area organizations.

Volunteers praised

The Association of Fundraising Professionals has honored the following volunteers in the community:

Dr. A. Bleakley Chandler Jr., Outstanding Philanthropist; and Westinghouse Savannah River Company, Outstanding Corporation/Foundation.

Also, Augusta-Fort Gordon chapter of the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association, Outstanding Volunteer Association.

Also, Marion White Linder, Outstanding Fundraising Volunteer; and Helen Hendee, Outstanding Fundraising Professional. Anne Randall Hatcher, Caitlin King and Christopher Turner, Outstanding Youth Volunteers.

Support for nursing

The Robert W. Woodruff Foundation has awarded $995,000 to the Medical College of Georgia School of Nursing to support its new doctorate of nursing practice program.
