Empty Stocking: Children put electricity on Christmas wish list

An Evans woman with two young children needs financial help this winter to get the family's electricity turned back on.

The 22-year-old woman said her family has been without electricity for more than a month.

After six months of unemployment, her husband recently found a job, but he won't be paid for another two weeks.

Her grandmother helps out when she can, but she is also living day to day and can't spare much, the woman said. Bills are piling up, and the family relies on food stamps to survive.

The woman's only wish is to have power restored in their home.

"Every day my son asks me, 'Mommy, do we power?'" she writes. "It breaks my heart to say no."

Her sons do not ask for toys for Christmas. Instead, all they want is electricity, she said.

"I would like to get my children toys for Christmas, but the only things I pray for are electricity and winter clothes for my children," she writes.

This woman will receive assistance thanks to The Augusta Chronicle's Empty Stocking Fund. Contributions can be sent to Empty Stocking Fund, P.O. Box 1928, Augusta, GA 30903-1928. To donate online, go to www.augustachronicle.com/emptystocking.
