WAYNESBORO, Ga. - Mrs. Ethel Gay Underwood, 87, died Tuesday November 29, 2005 at Brentwood Nursing Home. Mrs. Underwood born on July 1, 1918, in Jefferson County, GA to the late Leon Alonzo and Mary Elizabeth Stewart Newman. She was a former employee of Burke Garment Plant. She attended Lower Three Forks Baptist Church in Martin, SC. Mrs. Underwood is survived by her husband, Sanford F. Underwood, Jr., Martin, SC; four daughters, Betty Clayton (J. W.) Sardis, Dianne Fitzgerald (Butch), Augusta, Molly Allen, Charlotte, NC and Ollie Barrow (John), Hephzibah; two sons, Jimmy (James) Gay (Hazel), Blythe and Rick Gay of Lincolnton. She is also survived by her sister, Mrs. Connie Bailey, Augusta; 27 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren and 10 great great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday December 1, 2005 at the DeLoach-Kennedy Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Billy Arrington officiating. Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Gardens, Waynesboro. Following grandsons been asked to be pallbearers: James Gay, Danny Newton, Rick Gay, Jr., Charles Fitzgerald, John Barrow, III, Jessie Shackelford and Johnny Oglesby. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday November 30 at the DeLoach-Kennedy Funeral Home Chapel, Waynesboro.
