Gamecocks lose '06 Knights game
Central Florida is no longer on South Carolina's 2006 schedule.
Gamecock senior associate athletic director Shawn Eichorst said there was a "misunderstanding" between Golden Knights officials and the previous administration at South Carolina about the game scheduled for Sept. 16.
Central Florida overbooked its schedule and has agreed to help the Gamecocks fill the date and avoid a $100,000 termination fee.

South Aiken sweeps conference honors
Individual honors for the 2005 Region 4-AAAA all-region football team were awarded Monday.
South Aiken claimed a clean sweep.
Dan Pippin was named coach of the year, and the Thoroughbreds' Rod West and Dekoda Watson were the most valuable players on offense and defense.

Ronaldinho claims Golden Ball award
In Paris, Ronaldinho won the Golden Ball as European player of the year, another honor for the Brazilian following his FIFA player of the year award last year.
Ronaldinho, a midfielder who won the Spanish league title with Barcelona and the Confederations Cup with Brazil, is the third player from his country to win the Golden Ball following Rivaldo (1999) and Ronaldo (1997, 2002).
Ronaldinho finished ahead of Frank Lampard of Chelsea and Steven Gerrard of Liverpool. Andriy Shevchenko of AC Milan, last year's winner, placed fifth behind Thierry Henry of Arsenal.
"This is a dream come true," Ronaldinho said.
The winner is chosen by France Football magazine's annual poll of 52 journalists from around the world.

Jaguars add two Georgians to team
Augusta State added a pair of high school standouts to its upcoming roster.
Matt Kallaoun, a right-handed pitcher, posted a 6-2 record and a 2.46 ERA for Lassiter High School in Marietta, Ga. Kallaoun also played first base, hitting.384 with five homers and 31 RBI.
Dacula (Ga.) High School's Tony Baker hit.387 with 11 doubles and three homers as a shortstop for the Falcons.
Women's Basketball
Lady Lions add two players to roster
The Paine women's team has made two recent additions to its lineup. Latoya Ashley and Brittney Blackwell have made commitments to play for the Lady Lions.
Ashley, a 5-9 forward, averaged 12 points and 11 rebounds for Josey, and Blackwell had 8.5 rebounds and 8 points per game for Cobb County's Pebblebrook High School.

Wheldon will race for Ganassi team
Indianapolis 500 winner Dan Wheldon will defend his Indy Racing League championship with a new team.
Target Chip Ganassi Racing said it has signed the 27-year-old native of Emberton, England. He won the IRL title with Andretti Green Racing, but couldn't come to terms with team owner Michael Andretti.
"It's good," Wheldon said of his switch to the Ganassi team.
Wheldon will join Ganassi driver Scott Dixon, the IRL's 2003 champion.
Boxing
North Augusta PAL to hold tournament
The North Augusta Police Athletic Boxing Club will play host to the South Carolina State Silver Gloves Championships on Saturday at 7 p.m.
Aiken's National Silver Gloves champion Bobby Coats will be competing.
