AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mr. Alvin T. Williams, 76, loving husband of Betty Durham Williams, entered into rest Thursday, November 24, 2005 at the VA Uptown Division. Funeral services will be held in the chapel of Hatcher, Chance & Hydrick Funeral Directors on Monday, November 28, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverends Jerry Wilson and Chip Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Tommy McCaslan, Andrew McCaslan, Jonathan Harper, Jason Balkcum, Jeremy Swift and Darren Gransbury. Honorary pallbearers will be Lee Reynolds, Harry Newbold, members of American Legion Post 205 and the Forty & Eight. Other survivors include his daughter, Gaye Ortiz and her husband, Wilfred, of Evans; sisters, Mary Scoggins of Evans and Corrie Vinson of Augusta; granddaughters, Molly Ortiz and Siobhan Gransbury and her husband, Darren; great-grandchildren, Addison and Sophie Moss-Blundell. Mr. Williams was born in Louisville, Ga. to the late Cecil and Sallie Smith Williams. He was a member of Central Baptist Church and a former member of Woodlawn Baptist Church. He was a Military Policeman in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and a member of Jack C. Fortune American Legion Post 205, Voiture Forty & Eight 719, and a life member of VFW Post 3200. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Central Baptist Church Youth Activities, 3006 Richmond Hill Road, Augusta, GA 30906; or St. Joseph Hospice, 2260 Wrightsboro Road, Augusta, GA 30904.
