HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. - Loris Belle (Lou) Rissman Levy, of Hilton Head Island, died Friday, November 25, 2005 at Hilton Head Regional Medical Center following a brave battle against lung cancer. It can truly be said that the world is a better place because of her many contributions. She was born in Chicago, Ill., daughter of the late Henry and Pauline Rissman. Mrs. Levy received both her Bachelors and Masters in Education from the University of Illinois. She was an outstanding teacher for over 30 years, most of that time in the Richmond County, Ga. public schools, where she positively influenced the lives of many children. She will long be remembered for her incisive wit, compassionate nature, sharp mind and extraordinary valor. Lou was an exceptional person and a true blessing to everyone who was privileged to know her. She will be profoundly missed by all of her devoted friends and loving family. She is survived by her husband of more than 50 years, Dr.Maurice Levy, former Associate Dean for Faculty Development and Professor of Pediatrics at the Medical College of Georgia; and her three loving children, Arden L. Levy, M.D. and her husband, Mark. L. Lurey, of Spartanburg, S.C., Andrea H. Levy, M.D. of Madison, Wis. and James M. Levy, J.D. of Gulf Breeze, Fla.; as well as her sister, Hope Arthur of New York City. Services will be held Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at Congregation Beth Yam. Interment will be in Six Oaks Cemetery. Memorial donations in her honor may be made to the medical College of Georgia Foundation, Inc., Alumni Center, FI-1000, Augusta, GA 30912-7730; or the Palmetto Health Hospice, 27 Dr. Mellichamp Drive, Bluffton, SC 29910. The Island Funeral Home and Crematory, Hilton Head Island, is in charge of arrangements.
