AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mr. Paul R. Armstrong passed away Saturday, November 19, 2005 in Gainesville, Fla. He was born in York, Pa. on January 17, 1944. He is survived by his parents, Paul R. Armstrong and Esther Armstrong; Sandra Armstrong, his wife of 24 years; his son, Christopher Armstrong of Edgefield; daughter, Jennifer Armstrong of Augusta; stepson, James Gambrell of Jacksonville, Fla.; and five grandchildren. Mr. Armstrong served in the U.S. Air force. He was one of the first Republican majority elected in 1988 to the Columbia Co. Board of Commissioners since the reconstruction era. He opened the door to many of the things now present in Columbia County, such as John Deere in the Horizon South Industrial Park in Grovetown, and he was strongly involved in the present Savannah Rapids Pavilion.
