Empty Stocking Fund: Crime victim struggles to help children

An Augusta crime victim raising four children alone after nearly losing her life in a domestic assault this summer is unable to make the holidays happy without assistance.

The 34-year-old single mother has spent the past seven months recovering in physical therapy. In April, the father of her children shot her five times and then killed himself in the presence of the children.

The woman hopes to return to work soon but is struggling to make ends meet.

There is no money left over from paying bills to purchase gifts for her children, she said.

"I am asking for Christmas assistance this year because I want this Christmas to be especially happy for my children," she writes. "I am not financially able to accomplish this. ... Please help me help them know that everything will be all right."

This woman will receive help thanks to The Augusta Chronicle's Empty Stocking Fund. Contributions can be sent to Empty Stocking Fund, P.O. Box 1928, Augusta, GA 30903-1928. Go to AugustaChronice.com/emptystocking/ to donate online.
