Georgia Tech falls to Illinois-Chicago



ATLANTA - Josh Mayo scored 21 points, and Jovan Stefanov pulled down 11 rebounds as Illinois-Chicago took a surprisingly easy 73-51 victory over Georgia Tech on Friday night.

Coming off a one-point loss Tuesday to crosstown rival St. Xavier, Illinois-Chicago won its first game against an Atlantic Coast Conference opponent.

Othyus Jeffers and Elliott Poole each had 10. Zam Fredrick led Georgia Tech with 17 points.

Illinois-Chicago nearly upset Georgia Tech last December but fell 60-59 to the No. 3 Yellow Jackets.

USC AIKEN 83, NEWBERRY 74

In Aiken, Richard Blocker scored 22 points and pulled down 11 rebounds as USC Aiken beat Newberry in the PBC/SAC Clash.

USC Aiken (2-1) takes on Presbyterian at 7:30 tonight.

In Salisbury, N.C., Catawba rallied past USC Aiken at Goodman Gym.

The Lady Pacers (2-3) led 26-22 at halftime, but Catawba (1-3) went on a 20-4 run midway through the second half.

USC Aiken's Satu Leppanen led all scorers with 17 points.
