Woods moves into lead

MIYAZAKI, Japan - Just like last year, Tiger Woods is in front at the Dunlop Phoenix - with far less room for mistakes.

After trailing by a stroke in each of the first two rounds, Woods shot 2-under-par 68 on Saturday to take a one-stroke lead over Jim Furyk. Woods is at 10-under 200 while Furyk shot 70 for 201. David Duval, whose last victory came at this event in 2001, shot 71 and was at 203.

Woods entered the final round of last year's tournament with a 10-stroke lead and shot 67 to finish eight strokes ahead of Japan's Ryoken Kawagishi.

"I just need to go out there and execute shots and play well in order to win," Woods said. "Jim loves to compete and that's what makes him tough to beat. Whenever he's in contention, he's tough."

Duval, who shared second with Woods entering the third round and had a one-stroke lead after the first round, is tied for third with Japan's Kaname Yokoo (68).

Woods said he enjoyed playing with Duval and Furyk.

"We had a lot of fun out there today," Woods said. "I've played with Jim in the Presidents Cup and with David in the Ryder Cup and World Cup, so it was a blast today."

WORLD CUP: In Vilamoura, Portugal, Wales is in position to win at the expense of rival England.

Bradley Dredge teamed with Stephen Dodd for 11-under-par 61 in better ball for a two-stroke lead over defending champion England and Sweden.

"It's always nice to beat them in rugby, and great to beat them in golf," Dredge said ahead of today's final.

David Howell and Luke Donald, of England, and the Swedish team of Henrik Stenson and Niclas Fasth are tied for second after rounds of 63 for a total of 25-under 191.

Raphael Jacquelin and Thomas Levet, of France, also carded 61 to trail by five strokes. Denmark shot 63 and was six off the lead.

Americans Zach Johnson and Stewart Cink had 67 to tie for 17th with Australia and Mexico.

Dredge and Dodd are European Tour journeyman. A win Sunday would earn them $700,000 each, more than double their winnings in any other event.

PGA TOUR QUALIFYING: In Dade City, Fla., Augusta's Scott Parel tied for fifth place in a second-stage tournament and qualified for the final stage.

Parel, who was tied for third place after 54 holes, had a final round 2-over-par 74.

The top 18 finishers and ties of the 75 starters made the finals.

Parel had one birdie against three bogeys in the final round. He opened with rounds of 69-67-70.
