GREENVILLE, S.C. - Daric Carter ran for 68 yards and two touchdowns to lead Furman to a 34-21 win over Wofford on Saturday.

The Paladins (8-2, 4-2 Southern Conference) have won six consecutive at home and are vying for a Division I-AA playoff bid. Furman's defense held Wofford (5-5, 3-4) scoreless in the first half as the Paladins led 21-0 at halftime.

Furman's Ingle Martin completed 16 of 24 passes for 180 yards and a touchdown. Martin also rushed for 26 yards and had a 55-yard punt. Brandon Mays had nine carries for 91 yards for the Paladins.

The Terriers scored in the third quarter on Adrian Young's 1-yard run. He finished with 16 carries for 67 yards.

Wofford's Josh Collier completed 8 of 18 passes for 69 yards. He also rushed 13 times for 101 yards and one touchdown.

The Terriers were hoping to play spoiler against Furman. Wofford lost a playoff berth in 2002 when the Paladins scored with 29 seconds left to go to win 23-21.

Furman has won five of the past six games against Wofford.

The Paladins still have an outside shot at sharing the league title with Appalachian State. They need a win over Chattanooga next week and the Mountaineers to lose to Elon.

THE CITADEL 21, ELON 0

In Charleston, S.C., Ben Carnell completed 14 of 20 passes for 152 yards and two touchdowns to lead The Citadel over Elon.

The Bulldogs' defense held the Phoenix (3-7, 0-6) to 220 total yards, and it was the first time Elon has been shutout in 14 contests. The Phoenix were held scoreless last season against Furman.

Carnell, the Bulldogs' fourth starting quarterback this season, threw a 20-yard pass to Aaron Kelly with 12:23 to go in the second quarter, giving The Citadel (3-7, 2-5) an early 7-0 lead.

APPALACHIAN STATE 35, WESTERN CAROLINA 7

In Boone, N.C., Richie Williams threw for 164 yards and two touchdowns as the Mountaineers moved closer to an outright Southern Conference title.
