AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mr. Ralph E. Stanley, age 86, of Augusta, entered into rest on Wednesday evening at his residence. A native of Tifton, Ga., he had resided in the Augusta area since the 1940's. Mr. Stanley had worked as a Master Carpenter for many years through the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America Union, Local 283, where he had received recognition for membership for 55 years and Life Membership. Before his retirement in the early 1970's, he had taught many apprentice carpenters through the union and had achieved recognition for their accomplishments in competitions. Mr. Stanley's family remembers fondly his involvement with the construction of Camp Gordon, the Suntrust Building, the Wachovia Bank Building and working in the Small Arms Shop at the Augusta Arsenal. He was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Augusta and currently was a member of the First Baptist Church of North Augusta. He is preceded in death by a son, Ronnie Stanley, who passed away in 2003. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Elizabeth Stanley; two sons, Baxter Stanley and his wife, Rebecca, Augusta, Robert Stanley and his wife, Lydia, Augusta; two daughters, Betty Sue Thompson, Augusta, Marie Snider and her husband, Rollins, Roswell, Ga.; daughter-in-law, Gloria Stanley, Augusta; one brother, Phillip Stanley, Fairhaven, Mass.; grandchildren, Ken Stanley, Wade Stanley, Allen Thompson, Clay Thompson, Rachael Gillis, Ben Snider, Bethany Stanley, Philip Stanley, Lydia Marie Stanley; nine great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, November 12, 2005 at the Chapel of Elliott Sons, 4255 Columbia Road, with Dr. Bobby Coleman, Dr. John Moore and Rev. Baxter Stanley, officiating. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Ken, Wade, Allen, Clay, Phillip and Ben. Honorary pallbearers will be member of the Carpenters Local 283. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Friday, at the funeral home. If so desired, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O.
