NEWNAN, Ga. - Bill (Buddy) McVicker, age 79, of Newnan, died Wednesday, November 9, 2005. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, November 12, 2005 at the First United Methodist Church of Newnan. Born February 16, 1926 in Manheim, W.Va., he graduated from the University of West Virginia in 1949 with a B.S. in Forestry. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp from 1943-46 as a nosegunner on a heavy bomber. He had a long career in the forestry industry working for Gair Woodlands, Continental Can and Georgia Pacific Corp. He was named Georgia Pacific's Man of the Year in 1983 and retired in 1992 after 25 years with the company. He and his family lived in North Augusta, S.C. for 20 years before moving to the Atlanta area in 1980. He is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Vesta Smith McVicker; four sons, Lynn, Don (Nancy) of Charleston, S.C., Stephen (Tammie) of Fayetteville, Ga., and Dan (Nancy) of Lilburn, Ga.; eight grandchildren, Erinne, Michel, Jared, Jason, Courtney, Kimberly, Scott and Shawn; great-grandchild, Kaitlyn; brothers, Keith McVicker of Edinburg, Ohio, David McVicker of St. Matthews, S.C., Elden McVicker of Clinton, Ohio, and Dale McVicker of Reedsville, W.Va. An active member of the First United Methodist Church of Newnan, he loved golf and fishing and snow skied until the age of 70. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family. We were all blessed by his wonderful spirit, loving heart and faithful devotion. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First United Methodist Church of Newnan, 33 Greenville St., Newnan.
