Augusta State 17th at Carpet Capital

Augusta State carded a team total of 310 to finish at 39-over 903, dropping the team into 17th place at the Carpet Capital Collegiate on Sunday.

The Jaguars' Major Manning had 80 for a three-day total of 7-over, falling into a tie for 45th. Georgia's Kevin Kisner, of Aiken, carded 74 to tie for 34th

The event was won by Georgia State at 8 under. Georgia was third at 1 under, Georgia Tech (3 over) fourth and Clemson sixth at 10 over.

- The Augusta State women will be looking for their third win in a row when the team holds the America's Choice Mortgage Lady Jaguar Invitational today at Forest Hills Golf Club. The 36-hole tournament begins at 9 a.m.

Augusta State, ranked 48th in the nation by Golfweek, is coming off back-to-back victories at the Taco Bell Intercollegiate and the Ross Resorts Invitational.

Yellow Jackets top Jags in exhibition

In Atlanta, Zam Fredrick scored 19 points, and Anthony Morrow added 17 to lead Georgia Tech to a 96-57 victory over Augusta State in an exhibition game on Sunday.

Fredrick, filling the point guard slot vacated by Jarrett Jack when he went to the NBA with a year of eligibility remaining, also had four assists and Morrow hit 5 of 8 3-pointers.

"I knew at this point we'd be able to score, but there are some things, defensively, we really have to clean up before we play our first game," said coach Paul Hewitt.

The Yellow Jackets open the regular season against North Carolina-Asheville on Nov. 18.

Tyrekus Bowman led the Jaguars with 15 points and Dean Brebner added 12.

Three horses killed in Midwest tornado

In Henderson, Ky., a deadly tornado that ripped through the area early Sunday hit Ellis Park, killing three horses and hurting others, injuring track workers and destroying large sections of the grandstand.

The twister tore across southwestern Indiana and western Kentucky just after 1 a.m., killing at least 21 people in nearby southern Indiana, wrecking homes and knocking out power to thousands. No deaths were reported in Kentucky.

The tornado touched down near Henderson, then jumped the Ohio River into Indiana, officials said.

At Ellis Park, the tornado damaged horse barns and several buildings, said Paul Kuerzi, track vice president and general manager. Three horses died and some workers at the track suffered minor injuries, Kuerzi said.

Kuerzi said parts of the track's grandstand, infield tote board and parts of the safety rail were damaged.

Dempsey goal puts Revolution in final

In Foxborough, Mass., Clint Dempsey scored four minutes into the game to lift New England over the Chicago Fire, 1-0, and help the Revolution advance to the MLS final.

The Revolution will take on the Los Angeles Galaxy in the MLS Cup on Sunday in Frisco, Texas.

Matt Reis made seven saves to record his 11th shutout of the season in the Eastern Conference finals. The Revolution allowed 13 goals in 16 regular season games.

On Saturday night, Landon Donovan scored twice to put Los Angeles in the MLS Cup with a 2-0 victory over the Colorado Rapids.

Mauresmo claims 3rd Advanta in row

In Villanova, Pa., Amelie Mauresmo rallied to win her third consecutive Advanta Champion-ships, defeating Elena Dementieva, 7-5, 2-6, 7-5.

Mauresmo, ranked No. 4 in the world, won her third title this year and 18th overall.

- In Paris, unseeded Tomas Berdych upset sixth-seeded Ivan Ljubicic of Croatia in five sets to win the Paris Masters.

Ljubicic saved three match points, but Berdych held on for a 6-3, 6-4, 3-6, 4-6, 6-4 victory.
