Women win for redesigning bottles

Two local women have each won $200 gift certificates from Spawish.com.

Jennie McCarty, of Martinez, and Peggy Carswell, of Lincolnton, Ga., were two of 20 winners of the Seagram's Wine Coolers makeover contest. The contest was run in conjunction with the company's 20th anniversary, which included a makeover of the wine coolers' distinctive bottles.

'I DO'

Amanda Kight didn't want dessert but room service brought a tray anyway.

Her soon-to-be fiance, Ryan Williams, had insisted. When he opened the tray, the engagement ring surrounded by a heart of strawberries and a message in chocolate explained why.

Having dated for about three years, she expected the proposal. Looking back, she never thought the two would be a pair when they met in 2000.

"Always. before we settled down, he was a free spirit who wanted to backpack around the world," she said. "I didn't figure he'd want to settle down."

Yet their chemistry was undeniable, and the two soon discovered adventures don't have to be enjoyed alone.

They plan to spend their honeymoon deep-sea fishing and swimming with dolphins.

The couple exchanged vows Saturday at the Marion Hatcher Center in Augusta.
