First, I will freely admit that I am very involved in John Butler's campaign for the District 3 Commission seat. And I live in Columbia County. But 12 hours of my day, most of my businesses, my church, my mother and many friends are in Augusta-Richmond County. Like you, I have good reasons to care what happens in this election.
I can best describe John Butler with two words: good example. John is a working man, with four kids under 8; married for 12 years; a homeowner; and he has an ATM business. He is a carpenter with the Richmond County Board of Education while he is earning his management degree from Augusta State University. John also comes in a package deal with his supportive wife, Stephanie.
Yes, John has some old financial warts that some people are bent on exposing. But compared to the Urban Development Action Grant abuse by some of the richest people in this town, he is quite clean. Let me say this: John does not need money to help him stand up.
For the past three months, he has spent every evening and weekend knocking on more than 2,000 doors in District 3, listening to people and asking for their votes. John has the energy, determination and image I want representing Augustans.
The conventional wisdom is that you must either be retired or rich to be a commissioner. John wants the job. He will do the district proud, and will be a good example for the rest of Augusta.
