AUGUSTA, Ga. - Buford Franklin Clark, age 89, entered into rest Monday, October 3, 2005 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center Uptown Division after a lengthy illness with prostate cancer, spinal cord injury, and Alzheimer's disease. Mr. Clark was preceded in death by his father, George W. Clark, Sr.; his mother, Ruby Raley Clark; three brothers, Ruel Clark, George W. Clark, Jr., James Dillard Clark, and one son, Franklin Hinton Clark, Sr. Family members surviving Mr. Clark is his wife of 71 years and care giver for the last 17 years, Mary H. Clark; three daughters, Nancy Helen Smith of Augusta, Ga, Joyce Faye Kitchens of Boynton Beech, Fl, Mickey Lollis and husband Mike of Hephzibah, Ga.; daughter in law, Bettielee Clark of Augusta; eight grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, two sisters, Audrey Clark of Augusta, Ga. and Anna Francis Vinson of Tignell, Ga. Mr. Clark was born in Jefferson County, Ga. He moved to Augusta in 1940. During WWII Mr. Clark worked at Dravo ship yard in Wilmington Delaware. He served his country in the United States Marine Corp. When Mr. Clark returned to Augusta he worked at the V.A. Medical Center Lenwood Division and retired in 1981 with 39 years of service. Mr. Clark was a member of Bayvale Baptist Church and the George Boyd Sunday School Class. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm Thursday, October 6, 2005 at Poteet Funeral Homes West Chapel with Rev. Charlie DeLoach officiating. Pallbearers will be grandson Franklin H. Clark Jr., grand sons in law Terry Hair, Byron Gay, Pete Haynes, Chuck Vinson and Mike Lollis. Honorary pallbearers will be granddaughters Paula Lotz, Felicia Hair, Susan Mason, Tracie Gay, Drenda Hardy, Jodie Key, and Tabitha Grooms. Entombment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park Mausoleum with military honors. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm, Wednesday, October 5, 2005 at the funeral home.
