EVANS, Ga. - Gertrude Clark Broyles, 94, of Evans, died on October 4, 2005. She is survived by her son, J. Larry Broyles, and daughter-in-law, Sandra M. Broyles of Augusta; two grandchildren, Lora B. Bollinger of Evans and John E. Broyles of Charlotte, N.C.; and two greatgrandchildren, Christopher Bollinger and Alden Broyles. One of seven children, her sole surviving sister is Nelda C. Meyers of San Francisco, Calif. She was raised on a farm new Fayetteville, Ark. She married John E. Broyles in June, 1937. Her husband predeceased her in death in 1981 while living in Walhalla, S.C. She was a 1954 graduate of the University of South Carolina and taught in elementary schools in Columbia, S.C. and Wilmington, Del. until her retirement in 1976. She and her late husband lived in Walhalla, S.C. until her move to Brandon Wilde in 2003. While in Walhalla, S.C. she was an active member of Walhalla Presbyterian Church and was named Citizen of the Year by the Walhalla Rotary Club for her wok in beautification of the city and its parks. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 6, 2005 at the Elliott Sons Funeral Home, 4255 Columbia Road, Martinez, at 11:00 a.m., Dr. Roger Murchison will conduct the service. Graveside services will be held on Thursday, October 6, 2005 at 4:00 p.m. at the Oconee Memorial Park in Seneca, S.C., Dr. Roy Taylor, retired pastor of the Walhalla Presbyterian Church, will conduct the service. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Walhalla Presbyterian Church, 600 East Main Street, Walhalla, SC 29691.
