AUGUSTA, Ga. - Entered into rest on Friday, September 30, 2005, Mrs. Rosalie E. Evans, 84. Mrs. Evans was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY and moved to Augusta in 1959. She served in the United States Marine Corps, Women's Reserve Battalion at Camp Joseph H. Pendleton in Oceanside, CA, from April 1943 until November of 1945 for the duration of the National Emergency. She was the beloved wife of William N. Evans (Bill) from 1951 until his death in 1977. He was a country boy from South Georgia and she a city girl from Brooklyn, NY who met through correspondence in the mail while he served in the Army. They had a wonderful and loving marriage and provided a wonderful home for their children. She served as the Red Cross chapter secretary at the Eisenhower Medical Center until her retirement in the early 1980s and then volunteered with the Red Cross for 40 years of service and received the Clara Barton Medal from the Red Cross in 1991 for Meritorious Volunteer Leadership. Many retirees and employees of the Eisenhower Medical Center will remember her sitting at the desk in the lobby of the hospital helping out in the pharmacy on Monday and Wednesdays and the Friday mornings were spent pushing the coffee cart around the hospital floors serving baked goods and coffee, up until three months ago when she became ill. She loved her friends, the staff and all the volunteers at the DDEAMC. Mrs. Evans was a beloved wife, a loving and precious mother and a loyal friend to her many wonderful friends. Family members include her daughter, Kristine E. Wright and husband, David C. Wright, Sr. of Martinez; son, Keith J. Evans and wife, Wanda A. Evans of Evans; stepson, Gary C. Evans of Augusta; grandchildren, William Evan Wright, Emily S. Wright, David C. Wright, Jr., Angelia L. Randolph, Christy Gilmore, Jack E. Pennington, Jr. and seven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her sister, Doris Johanna Zanas and her parents, Mae Katherine and Joseph Benedetto. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 4, 2005 at 11:00 in the Chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son with Chaplain Jim Bray and Rev. Toye Watts officiating. Pallbearers will be W. Evan Wright, David C. Wright, Jr., Jack E. Pennington, Jr. and Freddie Manning. Honorary pallbearers will be the current volunteers of the Red Cross at Eisenhower Army Medical Center.
