SWAINSBORO, Ga. - PeeblesCurry-Durden Mortuary announces the death of Raymond Eugene Head, Jr., age 70, of Swainsboro, on Wednesday, September 28, 2005, at the University Hospital after a brief illness. Memorial services will be Saturday, October 1, 2005, at 4:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Peebles-Curry- Durden Mortuary with Rev. Clarence Thompson officiating. The family will receive friends at Peebles-Curry-Durden Mortuary Saturday from 3:00 p.m. until service time. Mr. Head was born in Rome, Ga. He graduated from Rock Hill, S.C. as a High School All American Football player and was awarded a football scholarship at the University of Georgia where he became known as "Ragin' Ray". He retired from Proctor & Gamble after 30 years and was owner of the Swainsboro Sears store. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club and was Presbyterian. Survivors include his wife, Patricia Quinney Head of Swainsboro; two daughters, Tamera Lynn Elston of Terrell, Texas and Lisa Lynn Hershberger of Royse City, Texas; three sons, Raymond Eugene Head, III of Charlotte, N.C., David Brian Head of Cedar Park, Texas, Robert Todd Head of Dallas; seven grandchildren, Danielle Elston and Dyllon Elston of Terrell, Texas, Justin Hershberger and Joshua Hershberger of Royse City, Texas, Whitney Head of Charlotte, N.C., Reagan Head and Allison Head of Cedar Park, Texas.
