WASHINGTON, Ga. - Mr. J. Marvin Hawes of 1784 Bartram Trace Rd., entered into rest on Tuesday, September 27, 2005 at Willis Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held Friday, September 30, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at Phillips Mill Baptist Church with Revs. John King and Robert Rayner officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Hawes was a native of Lincoln County and the son of the late Charlie and Mamie Hogan Hawes. He was a forester, member of Phillips Mill Baptist Church and Adult II Sunday School Class. Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Mary McAvoy Hawes; daughter, Janis Hawes Reynolds and husband, Dr. A. Estes Reynolds, of Athens, Ga.; a son, Jesse Marvin Hawes, Jr. and wife, Susan, of Martinez; stepchildren, John Howard of Rayle, Ga. and Deana Sherrer of Athens, Ga.; grandchildren, Jennifer Reynolds Sanders and husband, Dr. Alan Sanders, of Blairsville, Ga., Jason Sanders and wife, Rhonda, of Birmingham, Ala., Joseph Hawes and wife, Sheri, of Monroe, Ga., Justin Hawes of Fla.; stepgrandchildren, Adam Howard, Sherrer Howard, Brandon Howard and Ivy Land; seven great-grandchildren; one stepgreat-grandchild; several nieces and nephews. Mr. Hawes was preceded in death by two sisters, Ava Hawes Clary and Mildred Hawes Rape; three brothers, Henry Hawes, Walker Hawes and John Hawes. Pallbearers will be Brandon Howard, Benji McAvoy, Murray T. Norman, Mike Sherrer, Mickey Sisson and Jack G. Smalley.
