Sims rejoins Bulldogs during off week

ATHENS, Ga. - Georgia safety Antonio Sims returned to practice Tuesday, recovered from a broken leg and hoping to show that he can play in a crucial game against Tennessee.

Sims, who was listed as the back-up rover before he broke his left leg in the preseason, has nearly two weeks of practice to get ready for the Oct. 8 game in Knoxville.

The No. 7 Bulldogs (4-0, 2-0 Southeastern Conference) are off this week before facing the 10th-ranked Volunteers in a game that will have a major impact on the SEC East race.

"We'll see how (Sims) performs this week and next week," coach Mark Richt said after a two-hour practice. "To have two weeks prior to making a decision is going to be a real fair test for him."

Gerald Anderson did not practice after he sustained a concussion in last Saturday's victory at Mississippi State, but Richt said the defensive tackle is progressing well.
