Regarding the Sept. 24 article by Kate Lewis on race and Augusta politics ("Race remains factor in Augusta elections"), I agree that race is a factor in Augusta elections, but the election Sept. 20 isn't a good example of a black candidate breaking ground in the white community. With only black candidates in the race, how could anyone other than a black have won the white community?
I tip my hat to Ed Tarver as being a man of honesty and integrity, but he is also a silk-stocking lawyer. As such, his views and articulations of issues are bound to be more in line with those of the bourgeoisie than those of the poor and downtrodden.
With that as the framework, the issues aren't always about blacks vs. whites. Often they are about the haves vs. the have-nots. I trust that Tarver will be fair in serving the interests of both.
