ATLANTA - With a little less than half the regular season remaining, Class AAAA rankings are the only significant change in this week's Associated Press high school football poll.
After Ware County rose to No. 2 last week - beating Class AAAAA defending champ Lowndes - they fall back to No. 5 following a 21-14 home loss to Valdosta.
Statesboro and Tucker climb back to their Nos. 2 and 3 slots, respectively, in the AAAA poll while Warner Robins remains on top. Rome fell three positions to No. 8 after losing to Class AAA No. 1 Cartersville 34-3, and Lee County exits the poll losing to Dougherty 38-31. Creekside becomes the newest member at No. 9 as Northside-Warner Robins moves up two slots to No. 4.
Class AAAAA loses two - Norcross and Houston County - and picks up newcomer Roswell at No. 10. The top five remain with Camden County the unanimous No. 1 as No. 6 Marietta and No. 7 Tift County move up a notch. Douglass climbs two slots to No. 8.
The biggest change in Class AAA is Washington County slipping four places to No. 8 after losing a 28-27 squeaker to unranked Perry.
Cartersville, Carrollton and Shaw continue at Nos. 1, 2 and 3, respectively while No. 4 LaGrange and No. 5 M.L. King advance one position. No. 7 Troup moves up two as South Effingham exits the poll making way for Thomson at No. 10.
The top six remain in Class A with Bremen holding on to No. 1. No. 7 Warren County and No. 8 Dooly County jump one slot with No. 9 Johnson County entering the poll beating Hawkinsville 20-0 and forcing them out.
The Class AA rankings remain unchanged.
