Roundup: Golden Hawks upset; Red Devils get road win



Perry 28, Washington County 27

PERRY, Ga. -- Montay West and Jason Sweat led Perry to the Region 4-AAA victory, spoiling a big night for Washington County's Roscoe Wells.

West's 4-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter tied the game at 27-27. Sweat then kicked the PAT for the winning point, his fourth PAT of the game. West had three touchdowns and 76 yards rushing for Perry.

Washington County's Walls had 240 yards rushing and scored on touchdown runs of 9, 13 and 73 yards for fourth-ranked Washington County, which is 4-2 overall and 1-1 in the region.

LINCOLNTON, Ga. -- Vance Tarver's 31-yard field goal in the fourth quarter was the difference as Lincoln County won a non-region game that was scoreless through three quarters.

Tarver's kick gave Lincoln County a 10-0 cushion with 4:28 to play in the game.

The Red Devils needed all it when Athens Christian's Brett Satterfield scored on a 28-yard touchdown pass from Carter Gunn with 2:18 left in the game.

Earlier in the fourth quarter, Lincoln County scored on Brandon Barden's 3-yard run.

Lincoln County (2-3) opens up its Region 7-A schedule Friday against 4-1 Aquinas.

GIBSON, Ga. -- Brandon Cooks and Patrick Nordmann led the way as Aquinas ran its record to 4-1 with a non-region victory.

Cooks rushed for 85 yards and scored on a 3-yard touchdown run; Nordmann had 77 yards on the ground and scored on a 5-yard run.

The Irish open up their Region 7-A season against Lincoln County next Friday.

SWANSEA, S.C. -- Blackville-Hilda spread out the scoring as it tuned up for next week's Region 5-A opener with Bamberg-Ehrhardt.

Brodrick Raysor, Damien Campbell and Marcus Allen scored the touchdowns for the Fighting Hawks, who are 6-0 this season and have won 31 consecutive games.

Campbell scored his touchdown on a 12-yard return of a blocked kick while Raysor and Allen scored on short runs.

Allen led Blackville with 159 yards rushing on 21 carries.

The third-ranked Hawks play No. 2 Bamberg-Ehrhardt next Friday.
