German entertainment, a car show and the Fort Gordon Service Club flea market can mean only one thing - Oktoberfest at Fort Gordon.
"Attendance continues to grow. This event is so much fun," said Steve Walpert, Fort Gordon's entertainment director.
Oktoberfest will be Friday, Sept. 30, through Sunday, Oct. 2, at Fort Gordon's Barton Field.
Throughout the weekend, the Army Signal Corps Band, the Friendship Singers, German dancers and other acts will provide entertainment. There also will be authentic German food and beer sold during the event.
On Saturday, Oct. 1, there will be two added events - the Fort Gordon Service Club's fall flea market will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and the Better Opportunities for Single Servicemembers will hold its car and bike show.
At the car show, organizers said, prizes will go to best of show, first- and second-place winners, and there also will be a people's choice award.
A carnival will be held in conjunction with Oktoberfest; however, the carnival begins a day earlier, Thursday, Sept. 29, than the other festivities.
"It's a full-scale carnival with great rides," Mr. Walpert said.
"This is the kind of thing you want to bring your kids to or bring your adult friends. It offers something for everyone," he said.
All the events are open to the general public.
"We encourage the community to come and join us," he said.
People 16 and older must have a photo ID to get in the gate. Mr. Walpert said to be sure to have vehicle registration and insurance cards ready in order to make a quicker entrance through the gate.
"We try to make it as easy as possible," he said.
