Crawford outduels Setzer, Musgrave

In Loudon, N.H., Rick Crawford fought off series points leaders Dennis Setzer and Ted Musgrave to win NASCAR's Craftsman Truck Series event at New Hampshire International Speedway.

The win in the Sylvania 200 was the fourth for Crawford and his first since April 2004 at Martinsville.

To get it, the driver from Mobile, Ala., had to outrun Setzer and Musgrave, the two strongest drivers in the series, over the final 30 laps.

"What a great race among the veterans out there," Crawford said. "I needed to run my line and make sure Musgrave and Setzer battled it out. They did and I won."

The runner-up performance was a good turnaround for Setzer, who had built a lead of 227 points after winning at Indianapolis Raceway Park on Aug. 5.

He saw his margin shrink to 49 points over Musgrave heading into Saturday's event on the 1.058-mile New Hampshire oval. But Saturday's result put Setzer back up by 59 points with six races remaining.

Russia, France tied in Fed Cup final

In Paris, Amelie Mauresmo salvaged the opening day of the Fed Cup final for France with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Russia's Anastasia Myskina, who made one error after another in a match that left the series tied 1-1.

Elena Dementieva had given defending champion Russia a 1-0 lead at Roland Garros by beating Mary Pierce 7-6 (1), 2-6, 6-1 in a reprise of their contentious match at the U.S. Open.

France, which lost to Russia in last year's final without Pierce and Mauresmo, is trying to win the title a third time.

Mauresmo will play Dementieva in today's reverse singles in the best-of-five final at the home of the French Open.

Pierce, who played Saturday with her right thigh bandaged, might be dropped for the second match against Myskina.

"There is a plan B in place in case we need it," said France captain Georges Goven, who can use Tatiana Golovin or Nathalie Dechy to replace Pierce, who made the final in two grand slams this year.

Mauresmo, who is unbeaten in Fed Cup singles since July 2002, has lost her last two matches to Dementieva.

- In Beijing, top-seeded Rafael Nadal beat fellow Spaniard Juan Carlos Ferrero 6-4, 6-4 and will play for the China Open title against Guillermo Coria.

Coria, seeded second, defeated fourth-seeded Thomas Johansson of Sweden 4-6, 7-5, 6-2 in the other semifinal.
