AUGUSTA, Ga. - Avery Isaac Willis, 66, loving husband of Carolyn Chapman Willis, entered into rest September 16, 2005 at his residence. Mr. Willis was born in Decatur, Ill. and has been a resident of Augusta for 46 years. He was a founding member of the Plantation Golfers Association and former president and treasurer of the Goshen Home Owners Association. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, as well as a member of the U.S. Army Signal Corps Assoc. as well as the Ordinance Corps Assoc. He retired after more than 42 years of Federal Civil Service, retiring as Dept. Director, OEMTD. Mr. Willis was a dedicated Christian. Mr. Willis was preceded in death by his parents, William and Bernice Willis; a brother, Joe Willis; and a sister, Pauline Cruse. He leaves to cherish his loving memories, his beloved wife, Carolyn Chapman Willis; a daughter, Traci W. Talman and husband, John, Martinez; a son, David B. Willis, Chicago, Ill.; two sisters, Darlene Brown and Geraldine Dash, both of Ill.; two brothers, Bill Willis, Ala., and Charlie Willis, Ill.; five grandchildren, John and Jared Talman, Martinez, Meghan and Michael Willis, Ill., Garrett Willis, Ind.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, September 20, 2005, 10:00 a.m. at Jackson Memorial Cemetery, Jackson, S.C., with Rev. Wade Trimmer officiating. A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 24, 2005, 10:00 a.m. at Poteet Funeral Homes South Chapel.
