Woman says son attacked her

North Augusta Department of Public Safety officers arrested a North Augusta teenager Saturday after his mother said he chased her with a butcher knife.

Authorities charged Richard Dhoy Mosley, 17, of the 300 block of East Martintown Road, with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, according to department records.

Police responded at about 1 p.m. Saturday to a disorder at the family's home, where Gladis Daniels, 48, said Mr. Mosley chased her around the apartment with a large butcher knife, the incident report said.

A police officer said Mr. Mosley told him he chased his mother because she was bothering him, the report said.

Bar owner reports man tried to run people over

An Augusta bar owner told Richmond County sheriff's deputies that a man he told to leave tried to run over several people with his car and then cut the owner with a knife during a fight Sunday morning.

William Brewer, 56, the owner of Cue & Brew Pub in the 2800 block of Washington Road, told the customer to leave at about 1:45 a.m., according to a sheriff's office incident report.

The man was threatening to kill people and yelled, "I'm the Klan!" Mr. Brewer told authorities.

In the parking lot, the man tried to run over several people with his Lincoln Town Car, then got out and starting fighting with Mr. Brewer, the report said.

Mr. Brewer sustained a small cut on his thumb, the report said. The man fled the scene.

Man says someone in truck shot at home

An Augusta man told Richmond County sheriff's deputies that someone shot at his home Sunday morning.

Stephen P. Watkins, 25, of the 2200 block of Bungalow Road, told deputies he was coming around the corner of Bungalow and Peach Orchard roads when he saw shots being fired from a white truck in front of his house.

Mr. Watkins said the front door had a number of bullet holes in it, a sheriff's office incident report said.

Pair with gun attack man who refused ride

An Augusta man said he was assaulted after he refused to give a ride to two men in a parking lot in the 1600 block of Gordon Highway.

According to a Richmond County Sheriff's Office incident report, the 49-year-old man said he was sitting in his car outside Kmart at about 8:45 p.m. Saturday when two strangers approached him and asked for a ride.

When the victim refused, one of the men hit him in the head at least four times with a handgun, the report said.

The man drove away, and emergency personnel treated him for a large cut and a bruise to the left side of his head, the report said.

Father says teen was attacked in street fight

A Hephzibah man told Richmond County sheriff's deputies that his 14-year-old son was punched and kicked during a street argument Saturday.

The victim, a Spirit Creek Middle School pupil, told police that an older teenager approached him at about 8 p.m. in the 2500 block of Mickey Drive and began arguing about an earlier incident, a sheriff's office incident report said.

The older teenager then punched him near his left eye, and as the victim was on the ground, two other boys kicked him on his head and body, the report said.

The incident escalated and ultimately involved 15 to 20 people in the street, the report said.

Woman reports sexual assault at her home

An Augusta woman told Richmond County sheriff's deputies that she was sexually assaulted in her home in the 3100 block of Skinner Mill Road on Sunday morning.

The woman, 22, told police she was sleeping on the couch when she was awakened by a man touching her at about 1 a.m., Richmond County sheriff's Investigator Tom Johnson said.

The man began to have sex with her before the woman realized he was not her husband, he said.

After the woman screamed, the man fled on foot, Investigator Johnson said.

Armed man robs taxi driver, steals car

An Augusta taxi driver told Richmond County sheriff's deputies that he was robbed and carjacked Sunday.

The man, a driver for Curtis Cabs, said he picked up a man in the 1600 block of Cleveland Street at about 3:07 p.m., Richmond County sheriff's Investigator James Kelly said.

At Ohio Avenue and Clifton Street, the man pointed a handgun at the driver, robbed him of an undetermined amount of money and drove away in the taxi, he said.

The vehicle, a 1987 Buick LeSabre station wagon, was found about a block away on a dirt driveway near Clifton Street and Maryland Avenue, Investigator Kelly said.

Construction of weigh station will close lane

The right lane on Interstate 20 westbound from mile markers 187 to 189 will be closed today through Sept. 23 as construction continues on a new weigh station, a Department of Transportation news release said.

However, the lane will be open from 1 p.m. Fridays until 8 a.m. Mondays to relieve congestion.

Gumball machine is stolen from bus station

A bus service employee told Richmond County sheriff's deputies that someone stole a gumball machine from the Southeastern Stages Inc. bus stop Saturday.

Maurice Key told deputies that a customer told him someone had stolen the gumball machine at about 10:40 p.m. from the bus station in the 1100 block of Greene Street, according to a sheriff's office incident report.

The machine was unscrewed from its pedestal, the report said.

The machine is valued at $125, and the gumballs and quarters at $50, the report said.

Education Expo to be held at Fort Discovery

The National Science Center's Fort Discovery, 1 Seventh St., will hold its Education Expo for educators from 1 to 6:30 p.m. today.

Educators will be able to visit booths from Fort Discovery and about 30 other organizations.
