GREENSBORO, N.C. - Chaz Truesdale's five-yard run in the fourth quarter put the game out of reach as North Carolina A&T defeated Norfolk State, 16-14 on Saturday.
Joseph Arroyo's 24-yard field goal with 5:48 left in the third quarter gave the Aggies (1-1, 1-0 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) their first lead of the game at 9-7.
Brandon Brooks threw for both touchdowns by the Spartans (0-2, 0-1), opening the scoring with a 44-yard pass to James Callaham at 9:41 of the first quarter.
Brandon Colbert put A&T on the board less than two minutes later with a fumble recovery that cut Norfolk's lead to 7-6.
With the Aggies in the lead after Arroyo's kick, Truesdale scored five minutes into the fourth quarter to spread the margin to 16-7.
BETHUNE-COOKMAN 31, ARKANSAS-PINE BLUFF 17
In Daytona Beach, Fla., Eric Weems ran for two touchdowns, including a second-quarter score that put Bethune-Cookman ahead to stay in its win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
Weems' 6-yard run with 3:14 left before halftime gave the Wildcats (2-0) a 14-9 lead, and his 13-yard score following an option pitch from quarterback Jimmie Russell sealed the win with 14:03 remaining.
Larry Summers had a 70-yard interception return and Richard Woodbury had an 18-yard run for Bethune-Cookman's other touchdowns.
HAMPTON 22, HOWARD 12
In Washington, Kyle White-hurst returned an interception 99 yards for a touchdown with 5:55 left in the fourth quarter to seal Hampton's win over Howard.
Hampton (2-0, 1-0 MEAC) trailed 12-0 at halftime, but scored 22 unanswered points to earn its ninth straight win in the series.
Howard (1-1, 0-1) took the lead on a 12-yard touchdown pass from Ronald Venters to Jarahn Williams, and added to it on Keon Coleman's 8-yard touchdown run. However, the Bison were let down in the second half by their offense and special teams.

In Easton, Pa., Brandon Stanford caught a 4-yard touchdown pass from Brad Maurer, and Richmond kicker Carter Ball missed three field goals as Lafayette held for a victory over the Spiders.
Three times the Spiders made it inside the Leopards' 20, but Richmond (0-2) was turned away each time.
Lafayette (2-0) allowed just 88 yards after halftime and denied Richmond any shot at scoring after the Spiders' first drive of the second half ended in Ball's third missed field goal of the day.
