Area weekend events



Looking for something to do this weekend? You have plenty of options. Here are a few:

TODAY

SEPT. 11 REMEMBRANCE: Augusta's Sept. 11 remembrance procession and memorial ceremony will be held in downtown Augusta. The event will begin at Curtis Baptist Church near 13th Street at 9 a.m. and will end with ceremonies at Augusta Common at 10 a.m. There also will be a memorial service Sunday at Hillcrest Baptist Church, 3045 Deans Bridge Road, sponsored by area churches.

RODEO: A rodeo will be held from 8 to 10:30 p.m. at Fort Gordon's Barton Field. Admission costs $10 in advance, or $12 at the gate for adults and $5 for children. For more information, call 791-6779 or visit www.fortgordon.com.

AIKEN'S MAKIN': 2005 Aiken's Makin' will be held in the parkways of downtown Aiken. There will be entertainment, arts and crafts, juried arts, concessions and more. Aiken's Tastin' will start at 7 a.m. Guests are invited to sample and buy items from the Farmer's Market. The events are free. For more information, call (803) 641-1111.

JESUS FEST 2005: Jesus Fest 2005 will be held at noon at Cross Bridge Baptist Church, 3130 Skinner Mill Road. The event will feature bands, a 64-player Halo 2 tournament and speaker Michael Brand. Tickets cost $10 in advance, or $12 at the gate and $7 a person for groups of 10 people or more. For more information, call 831-8532.

NATURE PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP: A nature photography workshop will be held at 9 a.m. at Phinizy Swamp Nature Park, off Lock and Dam Road. Bring a digital camera, lenses and a tripod. The cost is $3 for members and $5 for others. For more information, call 828-2109.

REPTICON: Repticon will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Augusta Inn and Conference Center, 1075 Stevens Creek Road. Vendors will sell reptile pets, feeders and cages. There also will be reptile-themed contests, puppet shows and games. The cost is $5 for adults, $3 for children age 5 to 12 and free for children 4 and younger.

JUNIOR TENNIS: The Aiken Junior Tennis League's inaugural season kickoff, for children age 6 to 18, will be from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at the H. Odell Weeks Tennis Center, 1700 Whiskey Road, Aiken. SUNDAY

BIKER SUNDAY: The Midland Valley First Church of the Nazarene, 3526 Aiken-Augusta Highway, Clearwater, will hold Biker Sunday. Biker registration will take place at 9 a.m., and the service begins at 10. The service will be followed by lunch at noon. There will be a blessing of the bikes at 1 p.m. For additional information, call 593-3114.

GOLD CUP: The 2005 Gold Cup will be held Sundays through Oct. 2 at New Bridge Road Polo and Country Club, 862 New Bridge Road, Aiken. Tickets cost $10 per Sunday or $30 for all four Sundays. REMEMBERING 9-11: Remembering 9-11 will be held at 7 p.m. at the Aiken Unitarian Universalist Church, 115 Gregg Ave. Sister Cindy Catherine will share her experiences as a first responder during the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks in New York City.
