15-year-old dies of crash injuries

A 15-year-old North Augusta High student has died of injuries suffered in a car crash earlier this week.

Casey Lynn Delmore, of Fox Creek Street in North Augusta, was the right rear passenger in a 2001 Honda that crashed into a tree on Interstate 20 Tuesday night. She was taken to Medical College of Georgia Hospital with multiple trauma and died Wednesday, said Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton.

According to Mr. Carlton, the driver, Halley Griffin, 16, was headed eastbound on I-20 when she swerved to miss debris in the roadway, ended up in the median, where she hit a tree on the passenger side of the car.

Ms. Delmore's sister, Erin Delmore, 16, was the front seat passenger. Erin Delmore and Ms. Griffin were also taken to MCG, but have been released.

All three girls were wearing their seat belts, according to Mr. Carlton.

Lance Cpl. Dwight Green, spokesman for the South Carolina Highway Patrol, said the department is still investigating the crash.

Marshals offer reward in carrier's shooting

The U.S. Marshals Service is offering a reward for information leading to the capture of two men accused of killing an Aiken Standard carrier last month.

Authorities say that Cornell D. Tyler, 22, and Tremaine M. Tyler, 25, and two other men ambushed two newspaper carriers on Aug. 27, believing them to be rival drug dealers.

Debra Dorch was killed. The other worker, Joe Brewer, was injured.

The other two men - Willie L. Ware and Edward N. Walker - have been arrested and charged with murder, among other charges.

The U.S. Marshals Service is offering a $2,500 reward for information that leads to the arrest of either Tyler brother.

Anyone with information about the Tylers is urged to call the marshals service at (803) 765-5477. The Aiken County Sheriff's Office is also offering a $500 reward for information leading to the brothers' capture.

Glenn Hills student arrested after confrontation

An Augusta teenager was arrested Wednesday at Glenn Hills High School, police said.

Capt. Jack Francisco of the Richmond County Sheriff's Office said that Brandis Buchen Robinson, 18, refused an order from a school police officer to leave the lunch line.

On Thursday, Mr. Robinson remained in jail without bond facing charges of disruption of a public school and obstruction of an officer, a jail official said.


Man crashes car after chase

A man who led law enforcement on a multicounty chase on Interstate 20 on Wednesday night and tried to run over a sheriff's deputy crashed on John C. Calhoun Expressway, authorities said Thursday.

James Richard Bowen, 23, of Conyers, Ga., was stopped for a traffic violation at 11:15 p.m. on eastbound I-20 in Taliaferro County by sheriff's Sgt. Todd Dent, said Gary Nicholson, special agent in charge of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation's Thomson office.

When Sgt. Dent approached the car, Mr. Bowen attempted to run over the deputy. Agent Nicholson said the sergeant fired at Mr. Bowen, who was struck in the thigh and sped away.

The chase led to John C. Calhoun Expressway, where Richmond County deputies set up "stop sticks" to flatten Mr. Bowen's tires, Richmond County sheriff's Col. Gary Powell said.

2 jailed for carjacking after being chased

Richmond County sheriff's deputies jailed two people Thursday after officers were led on a chase with a car taken in a carjacking earlier this month.

Carlos Bush Jr., 18, was charged with theft by taking a motor vehicle and a misdemeanor charge of obstruction of a law enforcement officer, and Donnell Nelson Kirkland, 21, was charged with theft by receiving a stolen motor vehicle, misdemeanor obstruction, running a stop sign, fleeing or attempting to elude police and driving without a license, jail records state.

Lt. James Young said occupants of a 1998 Nissan Maxima led officers from Gordon Highway to the intersections of Miramar Avenue and Carroll Road, where they crashed into a ditch and a stop sign, he said.

3 downtown events to close streets Sunday

Three events in downtown Augusta will close several streets Saturday, according to the Augusta Engineering Department.

Those events include:

- Sept. 11 Memorial March and Service, which will close the eastbound lanes of Broad Street from Curtis Baptist Church to Augusta Common from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m.

- Southeast Clown Association Parade, which will close Reynolds Street from Sixth to 12th streets from 10 a.m. until noon.

- Walk for Autism-Augusta will use Broad, Fifth, Reynolds and 10th streets from noon to 1:30 p.m.

Drivers should use Greene or Ellis streets as detours.

Woman charged with felony statutory rape

An Augusta woman who had sex with a 15-year-old boy has been charged with felony statutory rape, authorities said.

Louisa Chelsie Bush, 21, of the 1500 block of McCauley Street, was charged Wednesday, according to Richmond County jail records.

Police said the boy's mother reported the incident to police.

Ms. Bush remained in the Richmond County jail without bond Thursday, a jail official said.

Wife is charged after steak-knife stabbing

An Augusta woman has been charged in the stabbing of her husband, authorities said.

Krystal Bussey Davis, 26, of the 3400 block of McAlpine Drive, is accused of using a steak knife to stab her husband, Kaylon Davis, 33, when he came home at about 4 a.m. Sunday, Richmond County sheriff's Capt. Jack Francisco said.

Mrs. Davis was charged Wednesday with felony aggravated assault and possession of a knife during the commission of a crime, a jail official said. She remained in the Richmond County jail Thursday.
