I still have many places left to see

"A goal is a dream that has an ending."

- Duke Ellington

My thanks to frequent traveler David Daitch, who not only sends us postcards from his many trips, (the latest was from Las Vegas) but sent me a book - 1,000 Places to See Before You Die.

David - whose postcards have shown a variety of world venues - says he still has 788 places to see on this particular list. And according to the book, I still have 970 to go.

MORE MAIL: Michael and Janelle Taylor, of Grovetown, say they've visited all 50 states, "mostly via our motor-home, and many to research Janelle's various genre novels. We've visited Hawaii twice and loved all except the long flight."

And Dwight Watt writes: "I have not made it to all 50 states yet, but it is my goal before I die. As of this summer I have visited 49 and have actually taken pictures of the 50th while I flew over it."

Other travelers and assorted postcards:

Brannon Lamar of North Augusta sends a card from Afghanistan showing men on horseback playing "bushkashi - the national sport ... a lot like polo, only played with a headless goat. They should try it in Aiken."

Emil and Sherry are visiting family in Michigan. Mark and Dawn of Evans send a card from Maryland and another from Delaware. Hazel and Helen Johnson are seeing the wonders of Iceland. Jim and Mary of Augusta enjoyed seeing family in Chicago and North Dakota and send a card from Montana.

Charles Barreras Jr. of Augusta is enjoying Virginia. Charles and Emma Black, Dick and Wanda Hatfield and Bob and Charlotte Reilly are enjoying clear views of Mount McKinley.

Doris from Aiken is visiting Nashville. Sandra and Shirley send greetings from Las Vegas and Oregon. Marty and Doris Charnock are on a tour of Lake Michigan. Frank and Melissa Tobakos send a card from Alaska. Maybe they bumped into Bob and Quin, who also sent a card.

TODAY'S JOKE: Here's one from Billy Cooper.

A young pupil was bragging about her knowledge of state capitals. She proudly said, "Go ahead, ask me, I know all of them."

A friend said, "OK, what's the capital of Wisconsin?"

The girl replied, "Oh, that's easy: W."
