NOTE: All the listed events are open to the public, although membership in some organizations may be required.

Today: Outdoor Destinations with Craig Johnson, airs at 1:30 p.m. on UPN. Another local outdoor program, Fishing with Ralph Barbee airs at 2, also on UPN.

TODAY: Pinetucky Gun Club will hold its monthly IDPA Pistol match, which is open to new shooters. Registration starts at 8 a.m. Cost is $4 for club members and $12 for non-members.

TUESDAY: Augusta Bass Club will meet at 7 p.m. at El Valle Mexican restaurant at the Kmart shopping center on Washington Road in Martinez. New members are being sought and everyone is welcome. Call (706) 533-7329 for more details.

THURSDAY: A Women's Pistol Shooting Group will meet at 7 p.m. at Carolina Star Gun & Hunt Club, Cedar Branch Road, Windsor, S.C., with a special range fee of $10. To join, or for more details, call (803) 641-1742.

SATURDAY: A Fall Migration Bird Walk will be held at Phinizy Swamp Nature Park at 8 a.m. with experienced birders as guides. Species to be seen include neotropical migrants and waterfowl. Call 828-2109 for more details.

SEPT. 11-12: Pinetucky Gun Club will hold its Club Skeet League competition with 100 targets in any of the four gauges or doubles. Shooting starts at 2pm on both days. Contact Steve Meldrum at the club for more details.

SEPT. 11: Pinetucky Gun Club will host a two-gun rifle and pistol shoot. Shooting begins at 9 a.m. Bring a friend and plenty of ammo. Cost $4 for members $12 nonmembers. Call Steve Meldrum at the club for more details.

SEPT. 20: The Sierra Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church on Walton Way Extension. Following an ice cream social, Dr. Ed Cashin will present a program, "What Bartram didn't write in his Journal," a commentary on William Bartram's travels and the upcoming Bartram Trail Conference annual meeting in Augusta, Oct. 21-23. The public is invited.

SEPT. 23-24: An archery-only hunt will be held at Bussey Point Wildlife Area at Thurmond Lake. Bag limit is two deer per hunter, one doe and one quality buck (four or more points on one side). Call 1-800-533-3478 for more details.

SEPT. 24: The Sierra Club will sponsor a trip to Heggie's Rock at 1:30 p.m. Botanist Judy Gordon will lead a two-mile hike to a famous granite outcrop owned by The Nature Conservancy. Limited to 15. Call 650-8314 to reserve a place.

SEPT. 25: The 35th Military Police Detachment will sponsor a bass tournament at Butler Reservoir, beginning at 7 a.m. Fort Gordon fishing permit requirements are waived for the tournament only. Entry fee is $20. Proceeds will support the group's MP Ball in October. Call 791-5033 for more details.
