Thompson's trial will start Oct. 17

Former South Carolina defensive end Moe Thompson, who faces 15 years to life in prison on burglary charges, will go to trial on Oct. 17 in Columbia.

A judge set the date at a Thursday hearing, according to Babs Lindsay in the Richland County prosecutor's office.

Thompson had the conditions of his bond changed in August so he could enroll at Grambling State and finish his college career at the NCAA Division I-AA school.

Thompson was not required to attend Thursday's session.

Thompson and former teammate Kevin Mainord were both charged with taking televisions from dormitory rooms this past February.

Both were later dismissed from the team by first-year coach Steve Spurrier.
