Fishing Tournaments

Open Team Bass Tournament

Butler Reservoir, Fort Gordon.

Entry fee $20 per fisherman with $5 optional big fish pot. Tournament hours 7 a.m. until noon. Fort Gordon fishing permits will not be required for this event. First-place winner will receive $50 plus trophy, while runner-up will collect $25 plus trophy. More information: Spec. Moss at 791-5033.

The series championship will be held Saturday, Sept. 17, from 6 p.m., to 1 a.m. Entry fee is $65 per team. There will be 100 percent payback.

Van Dixon, five bass, 13.21 pounds. Mark Johnson, five bass, 11.40 pounds. Jerry Barber, five bass, 8.92 pounds. Big fish: Johnson, 3.54 pounds. Thirty-one bass weighing 58.13 pounds were caught and released.

American Bass Anglers

Next: National championship, Red River, Shreveport, La., Oct. 2-8, for those making the point cutoff. Billed as the largest tournament trail for weekend anglers, it's open to men, women and youths (with parental consent) 16 years of age and older. No boat is required, but if you enter as a boater, you will be guaranteed its use even if there are no non-boaters in the field. Entry fee is $55 for one-day tournaments. Payment at the ramp will result in a $5 penalty unless you are signing up as a new member, renewing membership or are a life member. No guides or professional bass anglers are allowed. Next: Sept. 11, bass tournament, daylight until 2 p.m. Sept. 24, Kids' Fishing Derby, 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., Claypits II and III.. Oct. 23, bass tournament, daylight until 2 p.m. Nov. 13, bass tournament, daylight until 2 p.m. December: No tournaments scheduled.

Tournaments will be limited to the first 20 boats and are open to all ID cardholders and the public with a Fort Gordon fishing license guest permit. Entry fee is $10 per Fort Gordon Sportsman Club member, $20 per non-member, with an optional $5 big fish pot, with a guaranteed $100 for first place and $50 for second place.

Registration is with the club prior to the tournament or 30 minutes before the event's start. State licenses and Fort Gordon fishing permits required.
