Golf roundup

DUBLIN, Ohio - Despite closing with two bogeys, Paula Creamer moved closer to clinching LPGA Rookie of the Year honors by shooting 6-under-par 66 on Saturday to take a one-stroke lead after three rounds at the Wendy's Championship for Children.

Creamer, who won the Sybase and Evian tournaments earlier this year, can lock up the rookie title with a win. That would give her an insurmountable lead over Meena Lee in the points standings that determine the award.

The 19-year-old Creamer is at 16-under 200 after three rounds at Tartan Fields Golf Club.

She's one shot in front of Cristie Kerr and Soo-Yun Kang. Kerr matched Creamer's 66, while Kang shot 69.

Creamer began the day two shots behind co-leaders Kang and defending champion Catriona Matthew, who had 77 to fall nine shots behind.

Creamer took the lead with birdies on her first three holes. She added birdies at Nos. 7, 11 and 12 to build a two-stroke lead. She added another birdie at the 16th, but bogeyed Nos. 17 and 18.

Kang had four birdies and a bogey in her 69 as she tried to win for the second straight week. She won the Safeway Classic by four strokes last week.

Tied at 202 were Pat Hurst (67) and Michele Redman (68). Redman is a native of Zanesville, Ohio, about 60 miles from the course.

At 203 were Lorena Ochoa (67), Amy Hung (68) and Karrie Webb (70).

Annika Sorenstam, chasing her seventh win of the year, shot 69 that left her in a group of seven at 205.

THE TRADITION: In Aloha, Ore., Doug Tewell fired a bogey-free 6-under-par 66 to catch Gil Morgan after three rounds of the Champions Tour's final major this season.

Tewell and Morgan, who had 70, share the lead at 13-under 203.

Tewell, a former winner of this event, had six birdies - on Nos. 5, 6, 9, 12, 15 and 16.

Morgan also had a bogey-free round, but he had only two birdies to go with 16 pars. And the birdies came late in the round, on Nos. 16 and 18.

The co-leaders are one shot ahead of Tom Jenkins (69 on Saturday) and two in front of Dana Quigley (66).

CLEVELAND OPEN: In Cleveland, Andrew Johnson shot a course-record 9-under-par 62 to claim a share of the lead in the Nationwide Tour event with Matthew Jones.

Johnson and Jones (68 on Saturday) are at 10-under 203 for three trips over StoneWater Golf Club.

Johnson had a bogey-free round with nine birdies. Twice, he reeled off three birdies in a row (Nos. 7-9 and 12-14).

Augusta's Scott Parel had seven birdies and shot 66 to move to within two shots of the lead. Parel, who opened with 68-71, had birdies on Nos. 1, 3, 8, 9, 10 12 and 18 on Saturday.

BMW INTERNATIONAL: In Nord-Eichenried, Germany, Luke Donald shot 5-under-par 67 and leads the European Tour event by a shot.

David Howell is at 200 after 66.

Simon Khan (68), Soren Kjeldsen (65) and Brett Rumford (69) are at 201.
