Romance in Olde Town

Ten years ago, Birkie and Carol Ayer met at Fox's Lair in Olde Town. It was only fitting that when they were married, the ceremony was held in Olde Town, this time in their new home, a Mediterranean-style house on Broad Street.

The Ayers exchanged vows Sept. 20, 2003, at a Great Gatsby theme party they threw at their house. They'd been dating for seven years, and had been planning the party for nearly as long.

The 100 or so guests who showed up in 1920s-era costumes had the wedding ceremony sprung on them.

"It was so beautiful, and everyone was all dressed up, so we had to take advantage of it," Mrs. Ayer said. "I had another dress to change into after the ceremony, but I got so caught up in the fun, I completely forgot."
