First aid classes
The Augusta chapter of the American Red Cross is offering certification first aid classes. The classes will be from 6 to 9:30 p.m. on the following dates - Monday, Aug. 23 and 29, for adult CPR classes. First aid will be offered today, Tuesday and Aug. 25 and 30 at the Augusta Red Cross, 1322 Ellis St. The cost is $45 for adult CPR and first aid classes, $35 for adult CPR or first aid only. Visitors will have an opportunity to view the Perseids meteor shower at 9 p.m. Friday at Phinizy Swamp. The event includes a 2-mile walk. Registration is required. The cost is $3 members and $5 nonmembers. For more information, call 828-2109.
Society to meet
The Augusta Archaeologi-cal Society will meet at 8 p.m. Friday at Augusta Technical College, Building 100, Room 111. Dr. Albert Goodyear will be the guest speaker. The event is open to the public.
Back to school
A Back-to-School Jam is scheduled from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Augusta Common, 836 Reynolds St. The free event includes rides, information booths, games, giveaways, vendors and entertainment. For more information, call 821-1754.

The Girl Scouts S-mores Campfire alumnae reunion will be held from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 18, at Camp Tanglewood. Events include campfire, Girl Scout songs and a special speaker. Spirit Creek events

Phinizy Swamp Nature Park will hold an Adopt-A-Stream Workshop from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 25, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27.
