North Augusta team wins World Series
In Ponchatoula, La., the North Augusta 15-16-year-old All-Stars topped Monroe, La., 6-5 in 10 innings Friday to win the Dixie Pre-Majors World Series.
Ben Clark's single drove in Will Fulmer for the decisive run.
It is North Augusta's first title since 1967.

Tampa Bay goalie bolts for Chicago
Stanley Cup-winning goalie Nikolai Khabibulin signed a four-year, $27 million contract with the Chicago Blackhawks, leaving the defending champion Tampa Bay Lightning.
Khabibulin played in 55 regular-season games for the Lightning during 2003-04, posting a 28-19-7 record with three shutouts, a 2.33 goals against average and a .910 save percentage.
In the playoffs, he was 16-7 with an NHL-best five shutouts.
- In an about-face brought about partly by the team drafting Canadian super prospect Sidney Crosby, the Pittsburgh Penguins said that Mario Lemieux's group will retain its majority ownership. William "Boots" DelBiaggio, a San Jose-based businessman who was to buy a majority stake, will instead buy a minority share.
- Free agent goaltender Johan Hedberg signed a one-year contract with the Dallas Stars, where the veteran will serve as backup to Marty Turco.
- Paul Kariya signed with the Nashville Predators, the left winger's third team in three seasons.
- The Maple Leafs signed free agent forward Jason Allison to a one-year deal.
Allison, 30, set career highs in the 2000-01 season with 36 goals and 59 assists in 82 games.
- Former Vancouver forward Brad May signed a two-year deal with the Colorado Avalanche.
The 33-year-old rugged left winger had five goals, six assists and 137 penalty minutes in 70 games with the Canucks during the 2003-04 season.
- Alexander Ovechkin, the No. 1 pick in last year's NHL Draft, agreed to a three-year contract with the Washington Capitals.
- The Edmonton Oilers agreed to terms with goaltender Jussi Markkanen and defenseman Igor Ulanov.
Markkanen agreed to a two-year deal, while Ulanov received a one-year contract.
- Center Brendan Morrison, part of one of the NHL's top lines the past three seasons, signed a three-year contract to stay with the Vancouver Canucks.

Roddick rallies for spot in semifinals
In Washington, top-seeded Andy Roddick rallied from a first-set loss to beat Croatia's Ivo Karlovic 6-7 (7), 7-5, 6-4 Friday and advance to the semifinals of the Legg Mason Classic.
Roddick will face 13th-seeded Paradorn Srichaphan in the semifinals today.
- In Sopot, Poland, Argentina's Guillermo Coria defeated Russia's Igor Andreev 6-4, 7-6 (5) to advance to the semifinals of the Idea Prokom Open.
Coria will face Germany's Florian Mayer, who beat Finland's Jarkko Nieminen 6-2, 6-2.
- In Carlsbad, Calif., Mary Pierce defeated Patty Schnyder 6-4, 6-3 to advance to the semifinals of the Acura Classic.
The sixth-seeded Pierce will face the winner of the late quarterfinal match between seventh-seeded Kim Clijsters and unseeded Shuai Peng.

Funeral services set for former coach
Funeral services for former Louisiana State coach Sue Gunter will be held in both Baton Rouge, La., and her hometown of Walnut Grove, Miss., the school announced Friday.
Gunter, a Hall of Fame basketball coach and pioneer in the women's game, died Thursday at 66.
A visitation will be held on Sunday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Rabenhorst Funeral Home in Baton Rouge. There will be a second visitation on Monday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Baton Rouge. Services will then be at the church at 3 p.m. on Monday. Both visitations and the service are open to the public.
