Georgia fullback hit with suspension
Georgia sophomore fullback Chase Green, a walk-on player from Demorest, Ga., has been suspended for the Bulldogs' Sept. 3 season-opener against Boise State after being arrested and charged with underage possession of alcohol Saturday.
Georgia coach Mark Richt said Green also must perform community service, enroll in an alcohol-related education course, and be assigned additional internal discipline. With the season-ending injury suffered by projected starting fullback Des Williams, Green could see playing time behind starter Brannan Southerland.
Also, freshman linebacker Tavares Kearney has been cleared of a charge of academic dishonesty, his mother, Wanda Smith, said on Wednesday, but the freshman still faces possible university sanctions for allegedly making physical contact with an instructor who accused him of cheating on July 15.
Kearney is scheduled to meet with associate dean of students Kim Ellis today before reporting to campus in the evening with his teammates, who begin preseason practice on Friday.
