There will be more than tomatoes and watermelons available at Aiken's Farmers Market on Saturday.
"There will be balloons and cake and homemade candies," said James Goff, the manager of the market.
In celebration of the market's 54th anniversary, and National Farmers Market Week, Aug. 7-13, the market will celebrate with about 45 vendors participating in the festivities.
According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Web site, the market week was established to encourage people to visit the more than 3,700 farmers markets in the country. These markets are growing in popularity because people like buying fresh food directly from the growers.
Aiken's farmers market, at Williamsburg Street and Richland Avenue, is open from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily, unless vendors sell out earlier, according to Mr. Goff.
