ATLANTA - The Atlanta Braves addressed their most obvious need by acquiring reliever Kyle Farnsworth from the Detroit Tigers on Sunday for pitcher Roman Colon and minor league right-hander Zach Miner.
Farnsworth, 29, was 1-1 with six saves and a 2.32 ERA for Detroit and will serve as a setup man for Braves closer Chris Reitsma.
The Braves needed another reliever after Jay Powell was lost to a season-ending arm injury Friday night. Also, Dan Kolb has had a disappointing season, losing his job as closer and pitching inconsistently in a setup role.
Colon, 25, was recalled from Triple-A Richmond on Saturday after Powell's injury. Colon was 1-5 with a 5.28 ERA in 23 games, including four starts, for Atlanta.
He also appeared in 18 games for Atlanta in 2004, posting a 2-1 record and 3.32 ERA.
Miner, a fourth-round pick in the 2000 draft, is 2-7 with a 4.23 ERA as a starter for Richmond.
