He was preceded in death by a sister, Azilee Brantley and a brother, Bobby Ready. He was born in and was a lifelong resident of Aiken County. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Graniteville. Rodney's entire life was devoted to horses. He was a blacksmith for over 40 years and was a breeder, trainer, showed and judged palominos for at least that long. He was a member of the Palomino Horse Breeders of America where he served as Co-Chair of Registration and Transfer Committee. He also served on the World Show Committee and the Rules Committee. He was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association and the American Paint Horse Association. Rodney helped get the S.C.
