Mrs. Janet Wells (BELVEDERE, S.C.)

BELVEDERE, S.C. - Mrs. Janet Walker Wells, 84, wife of the late Ralph David Wells, of Audubon Circle, entered into rest Friday, July 1, 2005 at Aiken Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 5, 2005 at First Baptist Church of North Augusta with Rev. Jerry T. Matthews officiating. Interment will be at Westover Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Terry Sams, Jerry Duggan, Tommy Williams, Scott Chapell, Stan Bryant, and Tim Rice. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Sheffield Club and Cream of the Crop Senior Adult Choir. She was the daughter of Joe Carly Walker and Mary Elizabeth Shurling, born September 14, 1920 in Washington Co., Ga. Mrs. Wells had been a resident of North Augusta since 1948. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of North Augusta, and was a member of the J.D. Hughey Circle, the Hope Sunday School Class, Cream of the Crop Senior Choir, and the Sheffield Club where she was a former pre sident for seven years as well as Woman of the Year. She volunteered with North Augusta's Riverview Park, the Christian Community Ministry, and Meals on Wheels where she served for over 20 years. A volunteer with S.O.R.E. she was named North Augusta Public Safety's Citizen of the Year. She was preceded in death by two brothers J.C. Walker, and Kenneth Walker; and two sisters, Elizabeth Duggan, and Oreta Lawrence May. Survivors include a daughter, Janice Wells Radeck and her husband, John, of Aiken; three brothers, Carroll Walker and John Walker, both of Macon, Ga., and Donald Walker, of Warthen, Ga.; two grandchildren, Coni Rice, and David Williams; and two great-grandchildren, Zoe Elaine Rice, and Clare Elizabeth Rice. The family will receive friends at the funeral home this evening from 6 until 8 p.m. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of North Augusta Building Fund, 602 Georgia Ave., North Augusta, SC 29841.
