AUGUSTA, Ga. - Entered into rest Saturday, July 2, 2005 at Kentwood Nursing Home, Mrs. Frances Larson Harkness, 97, wife of the late Daniel Hoover Harkness. Mrs. Harkness was married in Lincoln, Neb. in July, 1930 to Daniel Harkness, who was a Professor of Civil Engineering at the University of Nebraska. The Harknesses moved to Troy, N.Y. in 1943 when Mr. Harkness accepted a position as Sales Manager for W. & L.E. Gurley Co. Mrs. Harkness worked as Assistant Librarian at the Emma Willard School in Troy, N.Y. from 1954 until she retired in 1970. The Harknesses retired to North Fort Myers, Fla. in 1972 where they resided until Mr. Harkness' death. Mrs. Harkness moved to Colorado Springs in 1985 where she resided until she moved to Augusta in December of 2001. Mrs. Harkness was a life long member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, a philanthropic educational organization, and was past state president for the State of New York in the late 50's. She resided at the Colorado P.E.O. Chapter House during her stay in Colorado Springs. Mrs. Harkness is a member of the First Congregational Church (U.C.C.) of Colorado Springs. Family members include her daughter, the late Judith Ann Harkness; her son, Daniel H. Harkness Jr. and his wife, Katherine T. Harkness, of Augusta; and grandson, Daniel H.
