VA emergency room will keep same hours
The Augusta Veterans Affairs Medical Centers' emergency room at the Downtown Division hospital will remain open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, the VA has announced.
The Life Support Unit was to shorten its hours to 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday, effective last Friday.
The VA cited the limited number of patients served in the unit late in the evening and overnight and said most patients seen during those hours didn't need emergency room treatment.
According to a news release, physicians have volunteered to fill an immediate opening in the coverage schedule, and VA nurses came forward to work the late-night hours in order to keep the emergency room open.
