Firefighters report arson

Augusta-Richmond County firefighters told Richmond County sheriff's deputies Friday that someone intentionally set fire to a house earlier in the week, a police report states.

Fire investigators said that between 2:30 and 3:06 a.m. Monday, a man set fire to a pillow inside a home in the 1500 block of Central Avenue.

The man ran outside, and the fire spread to the rest of the house, resulting in the home's total loss, fire investigators said.

No immediate arrests were made by the sheriff's office, but its investigators were notified.

Break-in takes place outside police station

A Richmond County Sheriff's Office employee told police Saturday that someone broke into his car while it was parked outside the department's Southgate substation.

The 23-year-old employee, Jason Michael Kennedy, said that between 5 p.m. Friday and 3:40 a.m. Saturday, someone pried open the passenger door window of his 1991 Chevrolet Camaro.

The report states that a bag containing change and 30 compact discs were taken from the car.

Police seek man in daughter's kidnapping

Richmond County sheriff's deputies are still seeking a man who they said kidnapped his 2-year-old daughter and fled on a bicycle Wednesday.

Tarrel Anthony Gilbert, 19, of Sherman Street, is wanted on a charge of felony kidnapping, police said.

A police report states that Dorisa Virginia Armour, 19, said Mr. Gilbert called her at midnight Tuesday asking whether he could get his 2-year-old daughter, Sharrell.

Ms. Armour said she told him no, and he said he was going to shoot her, the report states.

She said he came to the 1100 block of Beman Street at 12:20 a.m., pointed the gun at her and took the child, fleeing on a burgundy bicycle. The 2-year-old girl was later found unharmed on Sherman Street with her grandparents.

Pride and Progress to meet at medical center

Pride and Progress of Augusta-Richmond County will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at University Medical Center South, 3121 Peach Orchard Road.

The speaker will be retired Col. Thom Tuckey, of the CSRA Alliance for Fort Gordon.

Mr. Tuckey will provide information about the outcome of the Base Realignment and Closure round and its impact on Fort Gordon.

There also will be a representative from Richmond County to discuss the June referendum.
